Dear Future Self

Congratulations! You have survived 100% of your worst days. By now, you might be halfway through your draft of Things I Wish I Knew When I Was 21, or not. I’m positive that you’re still clueless about a lot of things in your life. But that’s okay. Take your time. You do you.

I hope that you are now living a life that you love. I hope you wake up everyday with the energy and positivity to live on and to fight for whatever you stand for. I hope you go to sleep every night knowing that you gave your best in everything you do and that you didn’t do anything to purposely hurt anyone. I hope that by this time, you finally have the courage and the wisdom to make decisions that will benefit you and the people you love.

But if not, then that’s still okay. You are not perfect. You will make mistakes; it will not always be easy but it will always be worth it. Remember that there is no one else in the world that can make your life for you. Do not blame or thank fate, destiny or luck for anything.

By now, I hope you fully understand that you have to accept that there are things you will never accept. Once you do, then life will be much easier to bear. Don’t stress yourself with things that doesn’t concern you. You don’t have to comprehend everything. This world is filled with a shit ton of bull that you don’t need. Learn to choose your battles.

In your lifetime, you will find millions of people who can make you feel happy, who can sweep you off your feet. There will be those who can give you the security you need — some would seem to be your soulmate, the perfect fit, your other half. Some can even take your breath away without doing anything. But to find someone who can give you peace? That is something else. To find solace, to find someone who calms the restlessness within you, to be your refuge in a stormy night, that is something I hope you’ll find.

Do not waste sunsets with people who will be gone by sunrise.

I know there will be days that you will hate and forget to love yourself. I hope you will always find a way to remember how. Just like you’ve always said to yourself and to other people, you’re always where you’re supposed to be.

But seriously, you should be insanely hot by now. Like Kim Kardashian hot.
